Hosseini spent most of his young life in Afghanistan untill the Afghan Foreign Ministry relocated the Hosseini family to Paris. They were ready to return to Kabul in 1980, but by then Afghanistan had been invaded by the Soviet army. In their refuge they relocated to San Jose, California. While he was there Hosseini graduated from high school in 1984 and enrolled at Santa Clara University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Biology in 1988.The following year, he entered the University of California-San Diego's School of Medicine, where he earned a Medical Degree in 1993. While in medical practice, Hosseini began write his first book "The Kite Runner", in March of 2001. In 2003, The Kite Runner, was published and since then it has been a book known world-wide in 48 countries. Its awards include "San Francisco Chronicle Best Book Of The Year" and "An American Library Association Notable Book" Since then he has written his second book entitled "A Thousand Splendid Suns" which has also become a best seller. During his spare time he has created the "The Khaled Hosseini Foundation" which mission is to provide humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan. Khaled lives in Northern California with his wife, Roya, and their two children ,a boy and a girl, Haris and Farah.
